Postcard from the West MacDonnell Ranges (Alice Springs)

The West MacDonnell Ranges run west from Alice Springs for 130 killometres. They’re broken by gorges and gaps where there is permanent water and plenty of wildlife. Some of the wildlife is fascinating, like the Long-nosed Ta-Ta Dragon. So called because after every little run, the dragon stops to wave one of its front legs, a very regal wave! And the Finke River has to get a mention as it’s the oldest river in the world. Scientists say it has been there for 350-million years. By comparison, the mightly Colorado River is a mere 7-million years old. As you can see the scenery throughout the ranges is stunning and a great place to explore. GH
